Top Twitter Mistakes of the Year

As 2011 draws to a close the CBC has compiled their list of the "Top Twitter Gaffes of 2011".

It appears politicians on both sides of the 49th parallel have fallen into the trap of posting photos of male private parts to their twitter feeds.

My favourite part of the whole debacle was that the communications director for the Ontario Conservative Party initially explained that an explicit photo of male genitalia posted to a party candidate's Twitter feed was "inadvertently taken by Lepp's Blackberry when it was in his front pocket".

The official story was later amended to state that the Blackberry had been stolen, which, in fairness, makes a lot more sense than the "invisible pants" theory which was circulating after the initial statement came out.

Other amusing entries in CBC's list include the employee at a communications company inadvertently posting a profanity-laced rant about Detroit drivers to Chrysler's official Twitter feed and Charlie Sheen posting his private mobile phone number to Justin Bieber.

Twitter is often accused of being one of the most useless fads to hit the internet, prompting many enthusiasts to leap to its defense in order to point out the many wonderful uses for such a service.

"Private messaging" has never appeared on any such list.
